Following The Last Straw

A woman that looked very similar to her mother stood beside her, and gave her a sharp poke in the small of the back as the boat began to pull away from the port.  Katsumi gave a half hearted wave to the slowly departing faces on the boat; the small group from Kirikagure, taking the excited exchange student from Konohakagure who was eagerly waving to the delegation she now stood with.  He was some kid from the Senju clan, apparently having shown some ability to manifest the clan’s bloodline limit.  Aunt Niji had mentioned nearly twenty children from Konohakagure had signed up for the exchange program, and since Kirikagure was sending someone from a noble bloodline, the Shinobi from the Land of Fire had selected one of similar status.

Twenty kids wanted to get out of Konohakagure.  What sort of nightmare village was this?  No one had wanted to leave Kirikagure, she had been forced into this awful situation.  The delegation returning to the Hidden Village wasn’t particularly large, but they were unlikely to get accosted by any ruffians.  While the Senju kid’s mother was a civilian, his dad was a Jounin, as was Aunt Niji; and even though she was an academy student, she, like her aunt, had a sextet of swords hovering behind her.

So there was practically nothing to break up the lecture that started mere minutes into their multi-day journey back to the Land of Fire’s hidden village.  It started with the history of the Land of Fire, and the Senju couple was helpfully chiming in where they felt appropriate.   It was only a few hours of walking in the oppressive sun through the too-bright greenery before Katsumi wasn’t able to hold back a snarky remark.  If she thought her mother was stern, Aunt Niji’s glare was downright withering, and the lecture immediately shifted from historical topics to an extended rebuke, how Katsumi would not bring shame to the Tamashiha family, and how her aunt would make a proper lady out of her if it was the last thing she did.

For this bit, the Senju couple looked away, faking being distracted by the trees along the road.

The next few days were…awkward, to say the least.  She couldn’t smell the sea anymore, the air was drying out her skin, and her mother’s younger twin never stopped with the lessons be it on proper etiquette, history, or politics.  Without her classmates, there was no one to appreciate Katsumi’s quick tongue and sharp wit, and any clever comments she came up with were met with yet another lecture.

Katsumi was sullen when she was put on the boat to leave everything she’d known, but by the time the village finally came into sight, she was downright despondent.   The village was too colorful, too loud, too big.  She missed the everpresent fog of her homeland, the sun was too bright here.  And she was stuck.  Five years, or until she became a chuunin.  She’d just have to get chuunin as quickly as possible so she could go home again.  Even Aunt Niji admitted she at least knew how to hold herself and walk properly, which was at the very least a basic requirement to safely control the soul blades.  She knew she was skilled in the ninja arts, hopefully she could just get through the nightmare that was this overcrowded village on her own, before her oppressive aunt managed to suck all the life out of her.

As they entered the village gates, the Senju couple thanked them for the company on the trip, and separated off to wherever they might have lived in this too noisy hellscape. A few people greeted Aunt Niji as they continued walking, apparently recognizing the head of the Tamashiha branch of Konohakagure.  After a few more minutes of walking (which, in her home village, would have gotten them wherever they were trying to go; this village really was far too big) there was some noise to their left.  Aunt Niji glanced towards the source of the noise and gave a small smile, ”Those appear to be some of your new classmates, you should go and introduce yourself.  I will be watching.”

Yemon rolled his shoulders as he left his small apartment. He almost tripped on the stairs because he was not quite as awake as he wanted to be and it was costing him a bit of effort. He was also sore from the sword swings the past two days, which just meant he had to do less of them overall. He still had to do them, just slower and more carefully. It was all annoying and if required effort but he could do that on a dime. After all, he had years of practice.

Yemon was not a classmate. Nor was he from this place.  Even weirder was the fact that he wore no ninja markings or any kind and was currently meditating.  His eyes were lost and glazed in their usual unfocused natural state and like clockwork he clicked his tongue every thirty seconds.  Trying to explain that he was watching the people come and go might have sounded spyish.  He was doing it for practice more than anything else.

His cane sat in front of him and his sword was to his side.  He was quiet and he seemed to twitch the louder ambient noise was.  This was due to the fact it inhibited his ability to see.  He saw by sounds and when they overlapped, he saw very little.  He was still waiting for his assignment to a team, so learning about the younger people was something he had been doing since he had arrived.

PostSubject: Re: The Exchange Student (open)   The Exchange Student (open) EmptyWed Apr 20, 2022 8:24 pm

Imasagi was near her family's home in Konohagakure, which was pretty much nowhere near the Gate. She was doing her chores and heard some rumors that the Senju Clan reprimanded Senju Kozue and her mother specifically for causing a kerfuffle with the Zenigata Clan. The Kerfuffle ended with the Vibrant Spear fighting Senju Kozue's mother in a one-on-one arena duel that their skill levels were unequal and showed how dangerous the Sokuto Spear is. Imasagi hoped not to run into her bully again, but her mother walked out wearing her usual beautiful kimono and smiling. However, Senju Kozue hasn't been a bully to her anymore after Zenigata Kotone's beatdown of her mom.

Queira Spearmaster, Zenigata Kotone:

Kotone smiled at her daughter but noticed a particular person with that familiar black hair and that stupid look on her face, Kozue. She wasn't happy to see the Senju that harmed her daughter's self-esteem by bashing it into the ground with her words. "Senju Kozue, Get over here now! Your mother had to spend weeks in the hospital because of your actions." Kotone said with an annoyed tone in her voice. She would handle Imasagi's bullies better since her daughter is weak around the edges. Imasagi doesn't want to defend herself since it is in the Zenigata Clan's blood not to be hostile to anyone overly.

Senju Kozue ran up to Kotone with fear in her heart since she remembers seeing her mother in the hospital. She only had to spend a day in the hospital after getting knocked out by Shojin, but weeks in the hospital for her mother were much to bear. "Y-Yes, I am here. P-Please doesn't hurt me unlike you did my mother." Kozue said, shivering down her spine. She met someone who would have knocked her out in Shojin, and now Kotone's tone showed that she's not to be messed with at all.

Imasagi sighed at hearing her mother's tone with Kozue and was a bit shocked that her bully was entirely being lovely. She was a bit confused about that, and there must be something for her to gain. However, Kozue being here means she took a long way to avoid Shojin to reach her home. "U-Um, what do you want, Kozue?" Imasagi asked with a slight sigh. She didn't hope to understand the reason why she was here.

Kotone looked back at her daughter and sighed, knowing why Kozue was here. She gave the Senju clan a piece of her mind after almost annihilating Kozue's mother, but she healed her enough to recover at the hospital. "Good for you to come to me as quickly as possible, Kozue. What are you going to say to my daughter? I hope it's what she needs to hear instead of an insult like you've done previously. I remember you were in the hospital too after Shojin knocked you out." Kotone said. She sighed at the annoyance of dealing with this, but her daughter hadn't reached the Adulthood Ceremony yet. Before her daughter's 12th Birthday, Kozue's mother had to take three weeks of recovery.

Kozue sighed, looked directly at Imasagi, and nervously walked over to Imasagi. She let her hand out to Imasagi and sighed deeply with regret about what she had done. "I-I'm deeply sorry, Imasagi. M-My mother told me to stop all acts of bullying towards you or anyone you know because it wouldn't be good to ruin our clan's reputation over a misconception of my ancestor. I-I should have probably told you sorry sooner, but I couldn't come up to you to say to you sorry. I was scared of how you would react or even Shojin." Kozue said with a nervous tinge near the woman who wrecked her mother. She was helluva scared of Zenigata Kotone, and her being called the Vibrant Spear showed through that one-on-one battle that her mother lost terribly.

Imasagi was shocked to hear those words from Kozue and shook hands with her. She was surprised that her mother had the will and determination to deal with this and nip it in the bud. Her mother let bygones be bygones, but the long fuse of the Zenigata Clan is why her mother exploded on Kozue's biological mother. "I-I accept your apology, Kozue! Uhh, mom, can I go?" Imasagi asked curiously. She felt like her chores were going to be done much sooner than anything.

Kotone nodded to her daughter after accepting Kozue's apology, but she remembered that today was Exchange Student Day. Kirigakure Villagers will be exchanging to live here in exchange for Konohagakure Villages, but Kozue was disallowed to do that because of what she caused in the village. She waved the two girls away and went back into her home.

Imasagi and Kozue left the Zenigata District of the Leaf Village to do something else, but Kozue decided to go back to the Senju portion of the village. She felt a bit depressed for Kozue, that had to go back home before school started again, but other things were interesting. It didn't take long for her to reach an area where all the kids usually hanged out. She was not that loud, but everyone in this area was noisy, so Imasagi noticed new people walking this way. Her life was still not that well off, but not that many people were bullying her because of Shojin, and everyone was afraid of retaliation from Imasagi's mother.

Imasagi sighed, feeling slightly miserable, but Kotone was one of those women that don't back down from a fight, even if it is one that she had started. Her mother was out of control, but her adulthood ceremony would be happening soon, and she would feel even more pressure of being the Queila of her clan. 'Kotone wants to deal with that ceremony as traditionally based as possible, and I suppose that's why she wanted to get that out of the way. Imasagi thought to herself. She waved towards the youngish Kirigakure girl that was being walked around by an adult, who could probably be her aunt.

Imasagi decided to walk a bit up to the girl who was new in Konohagakure Village. "W-Welcome to Konohagakure Village! My name is Zenigata Imasagi, and I am pleased to meet you!" Imasagi exclaimed to her. Her body language hinted that Imasagi was worried about something since she didn't walk in a different type of stride but more cautiously but kindly towards the new girl. The Zenigata Clan, or the Zenigata Mercenaries, are well known to the point of adenomas of how excellently they provided their services to all Ninja Villages no matter if they were the Major Ones or Minor Ones. It's a Reputation of mercy over being merciless in their contracts.

With a subtle push on the small of her back, Katsumi started towards the other girl; she walked straight and tall, her blades trailing silently behind her.  With her Aunt's eyes boring into the back of her head, she gave a formal bow, the blades spreading into a fanlike pattern behind her before returning to their position behind her as she straightened up again.  She knew that her posture and bow, showing the blades obviously and having them return to behind her, were beyond reproach, even by her mother's discerning eyes.

She plastered on a slight smile as the other girl introduced herself.  The name sounded familiar, she knew of the Zenigata clan, much like her own clan they were spread across the various hidden villages.  Based in this too-noisy village, unlike the Tamashiha's quiet home in the mists.  But no, Aunt Niji had mentioned Queila Imasagi specifically.  A girl her age and social status, as well as also the future matriarch of her clan.  But theis other girl seemed too shy for that.  She didn't hold herself properly; she walked nervously.  Totally inappropriate when meeting a stranger, unless she was putting on a false front.  But there wasn't much to gain from that, not that she could see at the moment.

'I'm Katsumi, I've been taken prisoner by this woman.  Get me out of here.' is what she wanted to say, but instead, she clearly and formally spoke, pretending to be the perfect image of nobility for as long as she could feel Niji staring at the her.  "I am Tamashiha Katsumi, thank you for welcoming me to your village.  It is an honor to meet the Queila of the Zenigata clan."

Yemon clicked his tongue again as he spotted a piece of metal in the air. He shifted and another sound from his tongue was made, though it was louder this time. Yemon was not happy about this at all, there was metal floating behind not one, but two people near him. To him, metamagic chakra BS was not something that happened on a regular basis. In fact, it never did at all so this was out of his realm of any semblance of logic. He got up and then tapped his cane loudly as he did so.

A second later, Yemon was next to the odd group, seeming to ignore them as he tapped his cane to one out the floating blades in the air. It made a metallic sound but nothing like anything metal he had ever heard. "Is-is this flying? How the hell does that work?" He said out loud as he got his ear a bit closer and tapped it with his cane again. His glazed eyes off in some distance as he wondered if the magical ninja had not only ruined gravity but also had remote control flying drones. "This, should not be probable." He stated tapping another blade.

Imasagi recognized the blades trailing the younger girl and quickly identified the woman behind her as her mother's Best Friend, Forever from the Tamashiha Clan. Kotone had many other friends, but not all were in Konohagakure Village. She felt as if that woman's name was Tamashiha Niji, but Imasagi was too busy with her chores or the like to introduce herself whenever Niji was over at her home. When the younger girl bowed and those blades spread in a fanlike pattern, they were beautiful. Those Chakra Blades were beautiful and unique. Her mother would gush over them even though the Sokuto Spear that Kotone wielded had been in the Zenigata Clan for many generations. 'I-I'm incredibly nervous about this.' Imasagi thought with her nerves.

Imasagi saw the slight smile on the younger girl's face but couldn't help but realize all the other such things. However, something caught her attention, and that was a clicked on someone's tongue, and she was a bit confused. She didn't bring her spear because she had to graduate first before being allowed to do it. It felt as if the younger girl was staring directly into her soul. However, being the upcoming heir to being the Queira Spearmaster had many trials before she became the next one. A la had to find a suitable husband for her. Also, Her husband had to have a particular talent to be the Quinsol Spearmaster and wield the Fire Spear, the Sketi Spear. Thankfully, that is in the future when she's Jounin's age and doesn't have to pick right now for a husband. 'I-I will do my best for my clan but wish mother would slow down her teaching on how to be a Queira Spearmaster a bit. I-It's a bit too fast, but our clan has been like that for an age.' Imasagi thought to herself.

Imasagi waited for the younger girl to speak before continuing, and it looked as if the girl wanted to say something else but didn't want to say it in front of her aunt. She feels a bit of an empathic way toward others, even more so than usual always, and one of the greatest strengths of the Zenigata Clan is their over-friendliness. Imasagi heard the younger girl's name and her introduction and smiled happily. Tamashiha Katsumi is a beautiful name, and that's wonderful. "N-No problem, Katsumi, it's the least I could do for one that came so far from home to Konohagakure Village." Imasagi said with a happy smile.

Imasagi blinked when she heard another voice behind Katsumi, specifically messing with hitting one of Katsumi's floating swords with his Katana. She listened to the click previously but didn't pay attention until now, but now the male in question looked quite familiar in terms of what he was, a Samurai. It didn't take much to hear what he said, how that works, and why they are flying. The Samurai in question looked three years older than her and incredibly buff too. "U-Um, sir, what is your name? I believe Tamashiha Katsumi could answer those questions of yours. Isn't that right, Katsumi?" Imasagi spoke respectably towards the older boy since Samurai are supposed to be respected. It is only because the Zenigata Mercenaries anyone who needed it, even if the Samurai is neutral and way out of the way, they still went. She shivered at being far north, even visiting the Samurai's home and wearing Konohagakure Village clothes.

In the back of her mind, she didn't want to make any assumptions about the Samurai in question, but they are very particular about their swords. All that the older boy said was a bit confused at how Katsumi's blades work even though the Soul Blades, as they are called, are pretty neat. However, it didn't take long for her to feel the presence of her mother, who is pretty fast when she wants to be. She shivered heavily and looked directly at her mother behind her. "M-Mother, what are you doing here?" Imasagi asked curiously.

Zenigata Kotone, the Queira Spearmaster, wielded her Sokuto Spear, nicknamed the Wind Spear. However, she covered it explicitly on her back but not the metal handle, and only the blade was. Kotone smiled happily to see Tamashiha Niji and looked at the younger girl, which must be the clan's heiress. She gave a slight wave to her BFF in the Tamashiha Clan in Konohagakure Village. "Daughter, you know why I am here, and I am here to greet the newlings like you just did. It is a pleasure to meet you, and my name is Zenigata Kotone, the Queira Spearmaster. However, your aunt Niji already knows me. It's lovely to see no other than the Vaunted Heiress of the Tamashiha Clan." Kotone said. She looked over to the 15-year boy specifically and could quickly tell he was a Samurai by his stance and a bit of confusion on his face. "Aha, A Samurai in our village, how wonderful. I am grateful you are here in Konohagakure Village." Kotone added towards the Samurai since she knows how to greet Samurai properly. The dialog between Samurai and the Zenigata Clan is positive, even with a reason they would be left alone.

Why was this girl so nervous?  Katsumi did not think she was particularly intimidating, was her aunt throwing her off?  Maybe it was just how she was; she did not get an impression that the other girl was faking sincerity, she really did see it as a pleasure to greet her.  Is this what mother and aunt Niji wanted?  For her to be an anxious, but formal, girl pleasantly greeting strangers?  No wonder her aunt had pointed her over here, probably wanted her to fall in with Imasagi, hoping the girl would be a good influence on her.

She failed to stifle a mischievous smile, influence could go both ways, she began to open her mouth to respond when someone tapped one of her soul blades.  She did not respond violently or quickly, she just gave a barely noticeable twitch of her shoulder to reposition the blade as the stranger exclaimed his wonder.  People that were unfamiliar with the Tamashiha clan usually assumed it was some sort of puppet jutsu, or fine wire control.  But after the following taps and the declaration that it seemed impossible, Katsumi glanced briefly to her aunt, who gave her a stern look and the subtlest shake of her head.

Katsumi suppressed a sigh and rolled her shoulders, moving the blades away from the older boy as she turned towards him, a pleasant smile plastered on her face.  He was apparently a samurai, but there was something wrong with his eyes, either way, she continued in a gentle voice, speaking with great formality, and managing to keep the words from dripping with sarcasm, "You honor me with your words.  Of all the strange dangers the Samurai face, and all the feats they accomplish, to find my soul made manifest so interesting is humbling."

She shot another glance at her Aunt, who looked as if she didn't approve.  Perhaps she had laid it on too thick, but she had practically held her tongue.  The boy lived in a village where two of the more famous clans manipulated shadows and grew trees from nothing; to draw the line of 'improbable' at floating blades struck her as either incredibly dumb or sarcasm on its own.  She had only met a few samurai, but they acted more reserved and looked very different from this one.

And then another voice joined, apparently Imasagi's mother, and Katsumi gave the same proper soul blade fanning bow to the woman she had given to her daughter.  She had to hold back a snort of laughter at being referred to as the 'vaunted heiress;' sure, she was the future matriarch, but she wouldn't be here if mother thought she was particularly praiseworthy.  "The pleasure is mine, Queira Zenigata."

Gah, she hated being so formal; it was the worst.

Yemon did not see, his perception of the world was different.  The second the blades fanned out, he was no longer the blind kid.  His cane dropped and his hand instinctively moved to the blade at his side.  His feet spread and he looked like a gunfighter waiting for high noon.  Yemon had no sense of chakra, no sense of what ninja considered power.  However, the adult women near him, were gods.  Well, goddesses, but telling genders without speech was not something he could do, plus, that was an assumption and he did not make those.  The adults in question were monsters, and he was a minnow, and it sucked.

Then, one of them addressed him as a Samurai, and he clicked his tongue, hell she even spear lock bowed to him.  He managed to unfreeze and offered the same courtesy, though he placed his sword in front of the bow, a gesture of both the acknowledgement of skill and the blade up, acknowledging an elder or better.  Yemon was sure the leader of the clan that spoke, was both.  "Osu!" He stated in salute as he finished his kowtow.  Being blind, he had no way of knowing the leader of the Zenigata clan had actually noticed him, but he knew a bad ass when they radiated skill like his cousin.

Then he noticed her introduction, and it was a bit like being hit with a cinder block.  "Spearmaster?" His mind raced and while he couldn't go wide eyed, his face lit up like a wildfire.  "Oh, OHH  Uhhh, Ma'am I am sorry for my rudeness! I am Akawaga Yemon!" He said.  Once he was addressed by the young woman with the blades he realized he had lost track of his orientation and clicked his tongue, and he was facing away, good job idiot, he thought before turning to the four ladies again.  "I'm not a good Samurai, but recognition is not normal for me, I appreciate it." He said and added, to be formal, since everyone else was. "-De gozaru."

PostSubject: Re: The Exchange Student (open)   The Exchange Student (open) EmptyFri Apr 22, 2022 5:44 pm

Imasagi didn't know what Katsumi thought of her only because Zenigata Clan members usually don't have wild assumptions about others. She was happy to introduce herself to others even though, some of the time, people would be disinterested in acknowledging her existence because of how timid she is. Her mainly timidness is because she got bullied much throughout her childhood, and soon she'll be an adult. However, not many people were interested in talking to Imasagi, as a person, only as a walking riches or piggy bank. Yes, the Zenigata Clan is indeed extraordinarily wealthy and has a reputation known far and wide, but they don't flaunt that wealth lightly. Her mother tells her not to exhibit their wealth but to show everyone the meaning of the word of being a Zenigata Clan member in the actions of what they do and not what material value item they have.

Imasagi slightly sighed, and the traditions of the Zenigata Clan are overwhelmingly immense. She noticed Katsumi's mischievous smile but looked confused about what that meant explicitly. The only times people mischievously smile is when they want something from her, but Katsumi is new in Konohagakure Village. The one thing that Imasagi is good at is observing others since that's all she got to do throughout her life, but she scarily puts it to good use. Imasagi noticed how Katsumi quickly adjusted the blade with a shoulder adjustment and was awed at how neat the Soul Blades were.

Imasagi took a bit and realized something shocking, what if the Samurai was blind. She listened to Katsumi's words toward the Samurai, and it felt correct to her. However, Katsumi's aunt Niji looked disapproved of Katsumi, which felt strange to her. Imasagi hadn't known why Katsumi what she said to the Samurai had disapproval from Niji. She held a different thing as the Samurai had done something a bit interesting, a la he went into a specific stance, all because of her mother appearing.

Kotone gently sighed at her daughter Imasagi for being stuck in her head. She noticed two things specifically, the way the heiress from Tamashiha, a bit younger than Imasagi, had a different mystique from her daughter. A la, the more she looked at her, there was confidence, which Imasagi lacks. Katsumi bowed respectfully enough with the words of the pleasure is mine. "Hmm, it would be a pleasure if you would teach Ima to be a bit more confident with her abilities and other such things, Tamashiha heiress. Also, Ima, please stop being stuck in your head." Kotone said, looking toward her daughter. She knew that her daughter would probably be shocked.

Imasagi was shocked and looked at her mother since her mother even asked Katsumi to help her be a bit more confident. "S-Sorry, mother, I will try not to be stuck in my head in front of guests again. I-It is rude to correct?" Imasagi asked. Her body language tensed up a bit since she had to stand up directly to be a bit less a scaredy-cat. She was happy to be herself, but her mother knew she liked to talk a lot. "I-I'm so sorry, everyone, for being rude." Imasagi said incredibly formally.

Kotone got one thing out of the way, and that's when the Samurai in question finally dawned to introduce himself. It wasn't rude, and he must have been terrified with her and Niji here. She felt like it was understandable to be slightly scared, but it gave a vibe that he was entirely blind. In how the Samurai respectably bowed to Kotone in the wrong direction, but with the Respectful Samurai bow to show respect of acknowledgment of skill and to be older than him. Specifically, his name was Akawaga Yemon, and it caused Kotone to smile happily since she had met his cousin. "On one of my trips to the Samurai Village, I talked to your cousin when meeting with some Zenigata Clan Merchants trading wears. Also, it's a pleasure to meet you, Yemon. Yemon, I welcome you wholeheartedly to Konohagakure Village." Kotone said with an honoring voice in her tone. She knows of the skill of Yemon's Cousin since she met him firsthand, and it was an honor to chat with someone so good with a Katana.

However, that reminds her of the Zenigata Clan's Black Sheep, Ima's childhood friend Miyo. 'I need to know how Miyo is getting away with wielding a Katana all the time. I suppose I should talk to her mother, the Master Philosopher/Historian, Zenigata Noriko. Or I could respectably ask the Black Sheep herself, Miyo.' Kotone thought with an increased bloodlust, but not towards Yemon, Katsumi, her daughter, or even Niji. It was mainly at the annoyance of dealing with black sheep in her clan. She could handle people wielding different sizes of spears, but a Katana, which isn't supposed to be a weapon to use or wield in the Zenigata Clan.

Imasagi looked over at her mother since she felt a spike in chakra from her mother, and entirely, her body language was afraid. "M-Mom, your chakra spiked again. Could you please stop thinking of whatever is causing it to do that? I-It scares me, sometimes." Imasagi said. However, she was shocked that her mother took trips to Yemon's village to meet with Zenigata Clan Merchants trading their wares with Samurai. "I-I am happy to make your acquaintance, Akawaga Yemon." Imasagi said to acknowledge that Yemon did introduce himself to everyone. All because it would be rude otherwise.

Kotone blinked slightly, and her chakra stopped spiking like it usually does, and she looked over to her daughter. She sighed deeply with regret since she sometimes can't keep her chakra in check since it is overflowing when wielding the Sokuto Spear. "Oh, sorry, everyone who could have felt that Chakra spike. And I am sorry for that increased sense of bloodlust for you, Yemon. What will I do with Miyo? Ima, it is nice you are friends with her but seriously, when you see her next, could you tell her the Queira Spearmaster wants to talk to her privately?" Kotone asked, not hinting at anything terrible would happen to Miyo. The Zenigata Mercenaries back in the day didn't always have only spears, but the clan slowly transformed into a Spear-only.

Imasagi shivered intensely when her mother mentioned Miyo, the black sheep in the clan. However, it seemed it wasn't terrible, and she nodded toward her mother. "Y-Yes, mom, I tell her that you want to talk to her privately." Imasagi said.

If Katsumi hadn't noticed the samurai was blind as he dropped into a combat stance, she probably would have dropped into a fighting stance herself.  No such excitement was going to happen today, at least not under the watchful eye of two of the more dangerous women in the village.  The boy who called himself Yemon was different when he thought she might have been a threat, though; perhaps the goofy idiot was just a face to make people underestimate him.  It was probably worth trying to see what, exactly, a samurai, even a young one, could do.

Either way, the moment has passed, and the Spearmistress of the clan had attracted the blind man's attention.  She glanced over at 'Ima' as her mother made her request, chancing a look at aunt Niji, who shot her back a severe look.  Katsumi continued formally, adding as much sweetness to her words as she dared, "I am more than happy to help Imasagi build her confidence, but I fear that may conflict with my dear Aunt's plan to ensure I become a demure young lady.  Stamping out confiden--"

There was coppery taste as she literally bit her tongue to stop herself, aunt Niji had given her lectures the last few days of travel, but she had kept composed.  There was the slightest twitch of her aunt's blades, so small only another trained in the soul blade dance would have noticed.  A slight break in the woman's composure, and a not-so-subtle warning to just Katsumi that she was going to stop talking, or she would be made to stop talking.

She knew that even that small remark, overly formal and faux sweetness, was going to get her an earful.  It was probably going to be worse if she had continued.  If she was going to be herself, it would have to be away from her Aunt's watchful eyes.

The Zenigata pair were talking about something that Katsumi didn't know about, but she didn't want to leave the small group and immediately be bombarded by another lecture from her Aunt.  Best to keep the conversation going, on subjects other than herself, "Who exactly is Miyo?"

It took a few seconds to snap out of it, turn off all the red line things that had been drill hundreds of thousands of times into his brain. He stood up and then knelt down and clicked his tongue to look for his cane. It was a bit away. Then he heard the younger girl talk about chakra or some other bang up nonsense that ninja talked about. He managed to wipe the look off his face and decided that being around this group was potentially hazardous to his health.

He gave a polite kowtow after the young lady introduced herself, and wandered off to find something else to do. Plus he felt like he was getting in the way anyway. So he nodded politely and tapped his cane in front of himself as he wondered off, making a note to talk to those two later. That and find out how the blades were floating.
