Meeting a new face (Kogami)

once more in the training grounds, Mika found herself spending more time here then the Academy, but that made sense due to her having to keep her body in shape and to train in secret, granted most of her training was done for now, at least as far as getting the techniques down, so for the time being it was mostly Physical fitness, and learning to better hold her Strength and Speed in check, the last thing she needed was to mess up and show her true capabilities, better to play things low and weak for as long as possible, till she at least had another means to explain her strength. Though the only way she was going to do that was with time and rank, the more time she took, the more likely she was to get promoted, and then the more it would make sense that she would get stronger, it was all about biding her time till she could do so. And so here she was, out in the training field currently jogging at a light pace as a beginning to her warm ups, her training gear with her like training throwing weapons, and she even got a training spear and sword to see if those would be helpful as well to learn, she had training explosive tags that would just let off a small bit of smoke when they go off, so she could train on timing with them as well.

Throwing was one of her problem spots, oh she could easily make it look like a mistake and force a believable miss by this point. The real issue was that she found it hard to dial back her strength and speed on the throws, throwing a punch or kick was easier to gauge then throwing a weapon, it's what made it something she was constantly training at, how to throw weaker then she really was, and she needed to get that down before the exams to Graduate into a Genin, accuracy was okay, she could pass, hopefully without perfect marks, not that she was quite THAT good, but perfect marks on that would seem a bit off for her. But her research, and the information given to her by a wayward Uchiha, showed that perhaps she wouldn't stand out quite so much with just Taijutsu, it seemed that, though rare, taijutsu specialists did pop up once in a while, so when she started to gain ranks, and perhaps made the excuse that she just stopped trying to train her abysmal Ninjutsu and Genjutsu, that it could all be passed off as her being one of the newest Taijutsu Specialists? Hopefully that all went well. But at least the option was there.

She did have to wonder how Taijutsu Specialists were viewed however, once again her teaching in the Cloister told her that the Villages and the Ninja in general showed great favor towards those that had great skill in Ninjutsu and Genjutsu, and little to no care of the Taijutsu arts unless they utilized Chakra in some manner, just Physical Taijutsu was seen as a low form of Combat, at least that's what the Cloister had info on, if things had changed well that's why she was here, but also that information would be tempered by the others in the other villages and what information they gathered there, maybe the information the Cloister had was more meant as a group that they mostly felt that way rather then any specific village, that would make a lot more sense as she thought about it, better to give the general then teach each village, likely further training in the cloister would have covered the Village of the land the Cloister was in, after all she found a good deal of information about Konohagakure in the Cloister, and information about other Villages in there as well, so it was likely.

Ether way Mika focused on her job now and started to plan out her Training regime once she felt warmed up enough to get to more physical activities for her training.

It wasn't much of a lunch, but a nice steaming bowl of ramen always managed to hit the spot for Kogami. With the allowance that he had, he always managed to find his way over to the nearby ramen stall that was parked outside of the academy and would sit around and have lunch as he observed the other academy students and genin ninja.  There was a reason for that, mostly due to scoping out the competition in terms of talented people he had to look out for in the future chunin exams. It was hard to say whether Kogami would even be ready for that,  but it was still something that he had to take into account. People could be friends for the time being but who knows how long that would last? However, what he knew for sure was the rivalry they would have and share throughout the course of their budding ninja career. When placed among people who all want the same or similar things, you're exposed to all of the raw emotion that allowed them to get this far. Being one of the people that might have to step on someone's dream in order to further your own is a burden most ninja share.

"Speaking of ninja, check that one out..."

Seeing from far out, or better yet, hearing the intensity of Mika's movements attracted Kogami to the training area that she was in.

"Thanks, chief..."

Leaving exact change and a small tip from the ramen bowl, Kogami would come across.

"Hey, Thumbelina! Looks like you're getting busy out here!"

Mika had by this point stopped her jogging as she had managed to get to the point were she felt she was good enough to start doing other workouts and so she was hard at work landing strikes against a tree, making sure to check her strength and Speed so they were not out of the norm for a student, though she was keeping count as she struck the tree doing so vocally as she was not doing her best to keep her mind from properly focusing on things or she would simply drift off to that place she always tended to do in the Cloister, and the next thing you know she was worrying her instructor there and freaking out the other students of her Clan in their hidden home, At least that's the looks she got but she never really knew why.

"four fifty three... four fifty four... four fifty five... four fifty six... Switch... four fifty seven" she counted as she was of course switching legs after every six strikes to make sure her training wasn't to heavily leaning on one side or the other, That was when someone called out to her, at least she assumed it was to her, as there was no one else to call to and she was rather small, so she looked over as she continued her kicks.

"Umm? you mean mean?" she asked looking a bit confused as the boy walked over, she did notice the Headband on them though so they were a Genin at least, so that was good information to have though she had to wonder if he was higher ranked then that? it was a possibility but then again she didn't seen the Vest on him that most Chunin wore so likely he was a Genin.

"Smaller than most but hit like a truck. Something like a miniature elephant on account of how hard you've been striking so far just by its sound alone. I don't think there's anyone else like that. To be honest with you, with that kind of potential power, I'd figure that your name would circle by now or I would at least recognize your face, but I know neither. To me, that's a little bit odd when I see a talented ninja like yourself fly under the radar unless you are the type that doesn't seem to like to bring that much attention to yourself?"

Kogami could understand that, maybe it did get annoying after a while? Being constantly approached by people who want to see if the rumors are actually true about what you can do or even individuals who want to talk to you because of what's being said about you could be considered time-consuming. All of that time could be used on training instead and focusing on your practical skills, which was something that it seemed that Mika was dedicating herself to.

"What's your name anyway? I'm Kogami Senju, the clan of the thousand skills. In my opinion, I think we are one of the best and carry ourselves quite well in the history books. And you? " It would be even more impressive if she didn't hail from anything, it meant that most of the strength and ability that she was was something that Mika got without a clan backing.

Mika looked at the man as he talked about her, thankfully it seemed he was just able to notice hardwork? or she would be in trouble she was even holding back... maybe she wasn't holding back enough? she would have to work on that again later but if she did so now she would seem even stranger "Oh no I am not some one all that heard of.. well I guess I am well known in a manner of speaking..." she said as she stopped her kicks having lost her count when the man started to speak about her strength "I get teased a lot at the Academy because I don't have any skill with Ninjutsu or Genjutsu, and I am barely in the class average for Taijutsu... the best I got is some strength but that's from working on the farm I grew up in outside the Village" she said sheepishly.

"Powers not really helpful if you got no skill to back it up with, I managed to make myself stronger by training but yeah.. I still got barely any skill in Taijutsu, but I am getting better, at least I am trying to" she continued as she looked at the tree, then back to the Genin who then introduced himself as Kogami Senju, whelp there you had it, another clan well known for Ninja, she wondered how many more she would run into, then again with all the noise and praise about lineage and the like that seemed to fill the village she had come to start expecting someone to brag about their Clan, but this guy didn't seem to go on to much just a quick introduction about his clan before he asked her name and clan, heeeeere we go.. once he finds out she wasn't from a clan his attitude was likely to turn sour, just like a few of the bullies from the Academy she bet.

"Mika Fairfield.... I... I'm not from a clan, just a family of farmers is all" she said as she answered his question before she started to punch the tree now, this time making sure her punches were not overly strong, which could easily be explained away by her not having as strong arms, after all one tended to have stronger legs then arms.

"Seems like a bunch of excuses, you wouldn't be here training as hard if you believed that you had no talent. But look at you, forty-five kicks? Maybe more? You might even wonder how did I know that you threw so many?" It was mainly because of Kogami's hearing, but he kind of keeps it to himself that it's a little more sensitive than most. At the very least, he figured it would be somewhat of an important tool when it came to spying on people as well, but only if he needed to.

She was a lot better than she made herself out to be. Kogami wasn't usually the one to instill some confidence in others, but he wouldn't pretend that certain things didn't exist in certain people. He would say it as fact, even though he believed it to be the case without any factual evidence. "Farmers girl, ah.... so that sweet ninja paycheck of risking your life mission after mission. I would say that your choice in life is rather questionable when you come from a profession that controls our food supply to do something even more dangerous. Do you want to talk about talent? In regards to taking care of cattle and all that crap, nobody else here knows how to do that. "

Speaking of which, perhaps Mika was banking in on some extra goodies whenever a harvest came in. Free food is always a plus side for Kogami, even if he didn't seem like much of a schmoozer.

"The sound of your punches isn't as sharp as it used to be. Surely you can hit harder than that?"

Mika looked at him a moment well it seemed he had some sharp ears as he continued to talk about sounds, well that was something she would have to deal with, abilities like that would be hard to deal with as she got stronger, he also seemed to have a keen eye as he seemed to be keeping close eye on her training, something else to look out for, but all the same she was now having to talk to this man.
"Not really an excuse, I never really had to fight before so I really don't have any training.. unlike everyone else in the Academy" she said thinking about it.

She then continued to punch the tree as she listened to his comment about the questionable choice in life path "Well the farm was nice but at the same time, well I seen a ninja going through the area, and well I wanted to be like them, so well my family was nice enough to help me come down here, so well I feel I want to pay that back, and moving here was good for them as well, since my brother might be able to have more friends out here" she said with a kind smile as she continued.

Though as the man mentioned the sound of her punches was different "Well before I was using my legs.. but I wasn't aware one could tell the difference between the sounds of punches and kicks" she says as she stops to look at the man with a quizzical look on her face, she did note the fact that he COULD hear the difference in the sounds between the two, it did prove he was possessed of quite sharp hearing.

"Everyone at the academy starts at someplace. You might be weak for now, well, all are. However, it's not forever because we have to keep this place running if the old farts decide to retire. I sure as hell don't want to be the only one picking up the slack o it's kind of motivating to see other people doing their fair share. Not like you're obligated to do so or anything, at the end of the day, it's your life to live. " Listening to her story some more, Kogami would simply stare motionlessly as she went on about her brother and her family. It was a rather admirable, the fact that she was willing to make such a sacrifice for the people that she loved. "So you looked up to the shinobi that you saw running around aimlessly eh? Well, I'm sure they have something to do, but if you never once had to clean some shoe marks from off the roof of your house, you don't really know the pain of having them run around all the time. "

Taking off his satchel, Kogami would reveal a wooden sword. "Before I started lazying around, I was practicing a little bit myself. Since ninjutsu, genjutsu, and even taijutsu is no good, how about weapons? If you're going to do the best for your brother, you shouldn't be running around defenseless now eh? How about it? I got an extra wooden sword if you want to give it a try, I know a thing or two. "

She smiled a bit to his words of encouragement, well at least it didn't seem like he was the kind to care about Clan or Lineage, she was running into those that did and those that didn't here in the Village, and she would have to make note of that in her report once she could start making them proper, though that would have to wait till she had some measure of Autonomy, likely she assumed Chunin rank if she could manage to get there without exposing herself, that would of course have to be done carefully, and she would have to also practice more techniques to hide her strength and to fall back on, her Clan style would be her trump card if needed but even that wouldn't be much if she had to deal with something way above her. But in a pinch it could be the deciding factor.

Looking over to the man as he continued on about Shinobi and she giggled a bit, well he had an interesting view on things that was sure, though she stopped her practice as she seen him pull out the wooden sword, She hadn't gotten around to training with weapons, well with Swords anyway, she had training in other things besides weapons, he made a fair point about having them they could be quite handy against an unarmed opponent even if they had Jutsu to contend with, she would also have to consider more Ranged alternatives then simple Throwing weapons, perhaps a bow? Ether way she smiled to the man "Well I wouldn't mind but I don't have any training with swords at all so I really don't know how much I will learn, but I will take you up on the offer to at least give them a try" she said with a smile as she walked over to him.

Very good, she was interested in trying her hand when it comes to weapons. "I'll give you a little taste of my sword style then. People might say that there is a proper way to hold a sword, but you're better off holding the sword the way that you want to, whatever is the most comfortable and works for you. " Taking on the Sekiro sword stance that he was training for a while, Kogami waited until mika picked up the sword and got into a comfortable stance of her own. "Maybe swords might not be your thing and you might favor other weapons down the line. However, this is all I got on me right now, so just bear with it for the time being. "

Using his freeform strength and speed at E-rank, Kogami rushed foward and aimed his hit towards the sword itself using a sideways slash. Depending on how she handled it, Kogami would then bring the sword down in an overhead like motion to mimic the the traditional sekiro sword stance stance strike. He was taking it easy, but he was using actual techiques in order to make Mika think a little bit as to how she could handle it.

"The sword is an extension of your body, an extension of your reach. You don't have to be as close to your opponent like how you would with taijutsu. You can use these moments to not be on the offensive, but keep them away at a reasonable distance. "

Mika listened as she picked up the sword and tried to find a comfortable way to hold it, something that felt comfortable and that works for her as Kogami had suggested, Eventually slipping into a simple stance not really reminiscent of any style, as she had really no training with swords, but the stance felt comfortable. "It's okay, I understand" she said with a smile to him as he Apologized for only having the swords on him.

Then he moved forward and she let out a meep, her sword being knocked to the side and she only barely got it back up to block the overhead strike, not really doing to much as she was also heavily holding back her strength and speed, the second strike also knocked the sword away but she managed to barely get out of the way of the swing.

Well she wasn't expecting training like this, she had thought he would show her a few strikes on like the tree and have her mimic them, not go after in a mock sparring match like this, so she was totally not ready, but she had managed to limit herself heavily and as she regained her balance from the second strike she looked at him as he explained. It made perfect sense yes she thought the same with other weapons she trained with, and she tried to think of a way to transfer any of that to the wooden sword, but the only way she could think to use it was like a fighting stick.. but those were usually in pairs, so really nothing would work with just one.

"That makes a lot of sense, keeps them on the defensive even when they are trying to attack you" she said as she considered what he said and this time prepared for him to come at her again.

"In addition to that, there's no real proper way to do combat in general. You should be open to using all kinds of options if it means that you can win and take advantage. Just because I gave you a sword doesn't mean that you have to swing it like one. " Moving forward again,  Kogami would swing the sword with an increased force and create somewhat of a small gust of wind backing the blade. However, instead of hitting the sword that Mika was holding, he instead dragged the sword to the ground and brought some dirt in Mika's direction.

If that worked, or regardless of whether it worked or not, Kogami would simply throw a firm kick to the legs of Mika in order to trip her and follow up with a downward sword strike as well. In a way, Kogami was also trying to teach her a lesson in his own way. "Who says that a certain martial art has to focus completely on the sword movements alone, or the blade? It can also be used as a tool to follow up for other things, a distraction, or even a misdirection in order to confuse your opponent about what you really want to do. Don't let the name of the technique or fighting style add to your limitation. The only limitation is the one that you set for yourself. Basically, do whatever it takes to become a great ninja and before you know it, you'll be one of the greats. "

Mika would listen but then she was rushed again, she was ready this time and tried to block once more, but then she was hit in the face with the dirt and she stumbled back, nearly falling over from the suddenness of it, but she cleared her eyes quickly but not fast enough as the man kicked her legs out from under her, but she balled herself up and rolled with the fall to get out of reach and get back to her feet all in one motion, though it was and unsteady maneuver but it avoided the downward strike at the same time.

Well it this guy was clearly a believer of lean by doing, and that had caught Mika off guard, most people in the village had been the type to lean by study, then practice, then in an organized spar to learn the specifics, well she wasn't to sure about that last one, but back at the Cloister that's how it was, she assumed by the amount of people training that hands on training like this wasn't quite as common.

It didn't help that she had no formal training with the weapon, so she  adjusted her grip and picked up a stick that was roughly the same size it was close enough for fighting sticks anyway, and she dropped into an amateurish guard, and was about to at him before she realized she was slipping into taking this seriously, so she calmed down, she had to do this carefully, after a moment she moved in "Okay I think I get it..." she said as she took a slow swing, not really using much strength or speed, at least any she had, she was sticking to Academy level strength and speed as she swept the stick at the guys legs, and then the wooden sword jabbed at his shoulder soon after.

"You are taking this pretty well, it's a little surprising. For some reason, I was starting to expect to hear you complain about me either going too hard or being a bad teacher. But the truth is, I'm no teacher. Certain things such as learning techniques or survival skills, especially if they are physically based, have to be second nature to you. No one can teach you that, not really. When faced with a situation that reflects the need to use such techniques, you naturally fall back on them without having to think about them too much. Or anyway, that's how I learn. I think that I learn that way the best, but if you feel like you could use a better sparring partner that uses the traditional sense, I would recommend one of the teachers at the academy or anyone else. "

Kogami didn't see himself as soft, he knew that by simulating particular situations, you could get the most out of your training. He hoped that it would be the same for Mika, but he didn't want to see like a bull to her. With that being said, he allowed himself to be tripped up by Mika and even took the shoulder hit with the wooden sword. The damage wasn't important to him, it was the accuracy and the comfortability that a person can gain from using the weapon that he cared about. "Very good...." Kogami said this as he dusted himself off.

"Want some more or do you feel like you had enough? I'm a little more high intensity but I don't want to hurt you, so we should just relax if you want my suggestion. You were training before I arrived here too. "

Mika looked at the man as he got back up from her strike, it wasn't very damaging but then again she was holding back a lot since she didn't want to have any stand out strength, what he said she thought about though, it made a fair bit of sense. "I don't think your going to hard, you seem to be holding back... I think? I wouldn't call you a Bad teacher just a different Teacher with a different method is all" she said with a smile as she considered the words as she looked at the wooden sword, it did make sense though, something she kind of already learned before at the Cloister, though there she weakness had been real for quite a long time, here she was stronger and hiding it, but the words he spoke still rang true, learning to do it through practice was one thing, using it in a sparring situation was another, she would have to consider sparring at some point but first she would have to get used to holding back while doing it and not letting her focus to much to make sure she didn't accidently use all her strength.

Looking back to the man she smiled a bit more and hefted up the wooden sword "The training method was fun, but maybe for now you have some suggestions that you can give me and I can try to get a bit better before we try something a bit more intense?" she asked with a smile as she looked at the things she brought with her to train "And yeah I am training, the Academy exams to be Genin are soon and I want to be ready for it, I did a lot of studying, but I know Shurikenjutsu use is part of it as well as Ninjutsu so I was planning on practicing that" she said as she then looked back at the man. His training method wasn't the worst it was something someone could keep up with if they were the same sort, Mika could likely keep up with it if she let herself relax about holding back a bit, but even if she didn't he seemed to just push hard enough for his student to learn so it wasn't that bad a technique for teaching.

With a deep breath Mika took a seat and smiled up at him "Other then physical training like that do you have any tips for Training Shurikenjutsu or Ninjutsu? especially if your not exactly good with Ninjutsu?" she asked with a smile as she reached over and pulle dthe training throwing weapons over.

"Listen kid, and ya ya I know it's ironic of me calling you a kid when I'm a pretty young teen myself. But still, listen up. There's no point in breaking you down with all my strength if I'm trying to show you something. I said I was practical and like to add a little realism to the things that I do, but there's no point in going 100% because it'll be hard for you to pay attention to anything. Know what I mean? Hard enough to give you some trouble but easy enough to follow along with. Once I get your blood pumping, everything else is easy to figure out."

Or so Kogami thought. That was his philosophy as to how he handled things, and it's admitted that it doesn't work for everyone. However, Kogami was the person that Mika was currently stuck with, so she would just have to deal with it for the time being if she still wanted to train with him.

"You're better off sticking with a Jutsu that you can do with your eyes closed. The thing about chakra is that it's not infinite so it'll run out eventually. Every night before bed, go over the hand signs and keep doing the Jutsu until you tire out. Got some chores? Make a clone to help you with them. Want to cut class? Use transformation jutsu to turn into a janitor and sneak out. If you facilitate a need to use the technique either through real combat or everyday life, it'll be a lot faster to know. That's my tip. "

Mika listened To Kogami's reasoning on the training and she nodded a bit, that made a lot of sense to her, Without that little bit of reality to your training you might not perform properly when your life depends on it so she could see where he was coming from on learning through some pressure, and she smiled a bit, that was a good Idea and she had to add that somewhat to the reports a lot of their preparation at the Cloister was done through study rather then experience, though they did go through a apprenticeship later on but that was when they where in their later teens. Perhaps if the apprenticeships started sooner it would be better. Though then she thought of the issues with the NInja world.. the Fact that people will kill other people to try to understand their kekkei Genkai, all because Ninja always needed more information, always needed more power, more leverage. Their younger members would be in danger because some would want what they perceived as their Kekkei Genkai.

The world of Shinobi was overly violent and seemed to always rely on power or getting more of it, meanwhile her clan, just to stay safe, had to separate itself from that world as much as possible and then had to make up ways to defend itself just to make sure it didn't become a victim of that world, and then people like her had to be sent in to learn more of these places so they can learn how to better prepare themselves and to make sure they were not going to be targeted by any specific Land or Village, all because Ninja didn't trust what wasn't under their control. She sighed mentally even as she smiled to Kogami.

"That all makes a lot of sense, OH and that's a great Idea for training my Ninjutsu, and Practical uses hmm? well my Clones.. the only ones I am learning about are the ones that are just images... OH wait? Does that mean there are Clones that could be used that have a physical Body?" she asked as Kogami brought up the whole Clones doing chores for her thing, now the Cloister had assumed they could do something like that but Mika thought she had already found out that it was simply Illusions, things with no Substance, there were times when they would see Multiples in reports of when their people were attacked, but if it was simply clones with no substance then it was something they didn't need to worry about, but Clones with Substance? that could be a worry, though Mika asked with excitement and interest when she asked about these solid clones.

"I guess you wouldn't know about it and maybe this is a class that you'll learn as a genin. However, once you get a hold of elemental chakra and chakra natures, you'll understand that advanced clone techniques will take on the physical properties of the chakra that you put into it. For example, you could make a fire clone and it'll be solid and can do the moderate amount of things that you can do. Then if destroyed, it turns into a firebomb that bursts into flames. So at the same time, it's both a utility and something that can turn into a form of an attack ."

Thinking back, Kogami thought that it would be unwise to give her a general heads up of the higher education that she would learn if she's going into the genin class soon. Someone would have to teach Mika properly, and Kogami is a little more straight to the point and a little more rugged with his speech and words. "Maybe when you get into the class you'll figure it out. But I can't tell you anymore. Not because I don't want to, but I don't want to risk telling you the wrong thing."

Looking away, Kogami figured that he spent enough time here. "Alright Mika, it's been fun. When you see me around, don't be a stranger. You can come around and say hi to me or whatever. I hope you do make it through the genin exams so then I can show you some more stuff. " With that Kogami started to leave.

Mika listened to him about the other types of Clones, it was something she kept in mind about the flame ones, she would have to be careful on missions if that was the case, she would have to start preparing to engage in ranged combat a lot more, range would protect her from such things and trigger such things before they were a danger, she would have to be vigilant about those things when she goes out on missions, though hopefully her Teammates where better at finding that stuff out then she would. "Okay that actually sounds really cool and useful, I will have to ask about them when I am more well trained, though I think I may focus on my Taijutsu.. it seems to be what I am better at, But maybe I can tell my allies about this and one of them could look into it?" she said smiling.

As she handed the wooden sword back to Kogami "thank you for letting me borrow this" she said with a smile as she gave a little bow "And thank you again for the advice, and I will use it to try to get better at Ninjutsu and Genjutsu, hopefully my skills increase, but it's just so hard to learn them" she said with an embarrassed smile.

As Kogami mentioned he was gonna get going Mika nodded "Ah okay... well take good care of yourself and stay safe okay?" she called after him as she then returned to her training and starting to focus on her ranged combat now still making sure hold herself back. Though she was working on her accuracy not her power, since she had to dial them both in to make sure she wasn't overdoing anything, she also wanted to keep up her training since her body was truly all she had she gave a lot of words to training her Ninjutsu and Genjutsu, but the truth was she couldn't use them past a certain strength due to her clans issue with using Chakra, she would simply shift to her saying she wanted to focus on Taijutsu since she was from the country she could say it was because she was so used to using her body, it would make sense to since most people from the country side likely had little to no interaction with Ninjutsu and Genjutsu, but also likely had no means to know how to train such things.

So she continued her training, throwing Shuriken Kunai and Senbon at the target she set up, a simple target on a rope so that if she hit she would send it swinging so that she would have to work on her aim, and it was taking a lot of her training ammo, but she continued, she would then pick up her used ammo and repeat the training even pushing the target to make sure it was moving before she started so it's course would change as she hit it, if she hit it, this also let her know if she was hitting with to much power then she could dial it back.
