TECHNIQUE SYSTEM:

Techniques are special abilities that allow a character to mold their chakra and/or stamina into a unique attack or effect that can aid them in battle. Techniques are broken down by specialty in the guide below, starting with a reiteration of the Technique Stats listed in the STATS section.

STATDESCRIPTION
StrengthThis would be the damage your technique can do. This is generally equal to the rank of the technique used if no other factors come into play.
SpeedThis is how fast your technique moves in the case of projectiles, or in the case of techniques cast BY/ON the user, it determines how quickly the user moves when casting the technique.
RangeThis determines the area that your jutsu is able to affect. This range is based on rank of the technique and can be influenced by other traits or perks as well. Below is a breakdown of each rank and the associated range:

E - 5m

D - 15m

C - 30m

B - 50m

A - 70m

S - 100m

These can be increased, but this must all make sense in the wording of the technique itself. For example, a Shadow Clone is a B-rank technique, it doesn’t allow you to create clones anywhere within 50m but it does allow your clones to travel anywhere within 50m of you.
DurabilityThis is in reference to how durable your technique is. This can be used in a few different ways, and each has its own connotations unique to it.

Ranged durability: techniques such as mud wall, that are cast at a distance to the user, thus colliding with a technique before it gets close to the user.

Self Durability: Techniques such as earth spear that directly coat the users body in a defense, thus techniques still collide with the user.

Chakra Enhanced Endurance: Techniques that boost the users natural endurance via chakra.
Misc. The final, and possibly most difficult stat to define, is simply labeled, Miscellaneous. This stat covers all related effects that aren’t related to the above stat listings. Below will be a list of a few of these effects and how they interact.

  • Healing: Techniques that heal an instance of damage
  • Poison: Techniques that cast a poisoning effect
  • Buff/Debuff: Techniques that buff or debuff yourself/others
  • Paralysis: Techniques that would cause a temporary paralysis effect

This is where most Genjutsu would fall categorically as well, since they don’t deal physical damage and usually just incapacitate an opponent temporarily or disorient them.
Technique Chakra/Stamina Costs:

E - 5
D - 10
C - 20
B - 30
A - 40
S - 50
ULT - 100

(NOTE: Maintaining jutsu costs 1/2 the normal costs for the additional posts maintained. Meaning if you maintained a C-rank, the first post would be 20, the following posts would be 10. The only exception to this is E-rank techs which get no deduction for maintaining meaning it’s 5 and then 5 for each following post.)

Technique Purchase Costs:

E - 500 Ryo
D - 1000 Ryo
C - 1,500 Ryo
B - 2,000 Ryo
A - 2,500 Ryo
S - 3,000 Ryo

[NOTE: A character can use techniques of up to +1 their tier in an area they have a specialty. In all other areas, D-rank is the maximum level they may learn]

Taijutsu:

Taijutsu (体術, literally meaning: Body Techniques) is a basic form of techniques and refers to any techniques involving the martial arts or the optimisation of natural human abilities. Taijutsu is executed by directly accessing the user's physical and mental energies, relying on the stamina and strength gained through training.

Taijutsu techniques rely solely on Stamina as a rule of thumb and generally revolve around using your body or other weapons to deal damage without using any chakra. These techniques are not weak to ninjutsu or genjutsu by any means, but are instead using the body as a medium directly as opposed to manifesting things via chakra.

Ninjutsu:

Ninjutsu (忍術, English TV: Ninja Art, literally meaning: Ninja Techniques) is one of the three main jutsu categories. Ninjutsu is the most nebulous of the three, and may most simply be described as anything that is not genjutsu or taijutsu.

Most ninjutsu use shape transformation, which deals with controlling the form and movement of the ninjutsu, while nature transformation deals with changing the ninjutsu's physical properties. Ninjutsu that use nature transformation tend to follow a naming convention of their nature type followed by a more specific name. With practice and experience, certain ninjutsu can become second nature to a ninja, allowing them to perform it at will.

Genjutsu:

Genjutsu (幻術, literally meaning: Illusionary Techniques) is one of the main jutsu categories which uses chakra. Unlike ninjutsu, the effects of genjutsu are not real, being only sensory illusions experienced by those who fall victim to it.

Here on NR it is our goal to balance techniques in that no category is overly powerful or weakened compared to others. With this in mind, we had to come up with some unique rules for Genjutsu to make them more balanced without weakening them too much.

As opposed to Ninjutsu and Taijutsu which base their interactions with others mostly on the Damage or Endurance stats, Genjutsu is totally based on the Perception stat, meaning that someone with a higher perception than the Genjutsu being cast will be less affected and those with lower perception will be more affected.

ALL GENJUTSU HAS A BASE DURATION OF 3 POSTS. This duration would then fluctuate upwards or downwards depending on the Perception of the person the jutsu is cast on.

(e.g. Someone casts a C-rank Genjutsu onto three people who have E-rank, B-rank and S-rank Perception in that order. The E-rank person would have to spend 5 posts in the genjutsu before they could escape. The B-rank person would only spend 2 ranks before escaping, while the S-rank could break out of it immediately.)

The above can of course be changed and manipulated based on traits or other perks that your characters may obtain over the course of their career.

Stat-Buffing Jutsu

Jutsu that change or buff stats in a maintained manner have their own set of extra rules.  First off, custom jutsu that buff a caster's stats are required to be of at least B-Rank.  Secondly, these jutsu are also treated as one rank below what they are registered as.  This means that a B-Rank technique that buffs strength will increase one's strength to C-Rank technique strength.  To clarify, it does not increase one's strength BY that amount, but TO that amount.

Technique Overdrive

Technique overdrive is a mechanic that allows one to increase the technique stats of a jutsu by +1 at the cost of expending additional chakra. When this is done, the user will pay +10 chakra to the cost of the technique to increase ONE SPECIFIC technique stat by +1 (Power, Range, Speed, Durability, etc...). This +10 addition continues through techniques that are maintained. (E.g. A C-rank jutsu increasing the power and maintain it -  20 + 10 = 30 initial activation, 10+10 = 20 upkeep.

Large Techniques

There is a limit to the size of techniques.  This is to include transformations, such as Super Expansion Technique of the Akimichi Clan, constructs like Sage Art Wood Release: True Several Thousand Hands of the Senju Clan, Susano'o of the Uchiha Clan, Bijuu Mode Transformations, and even techniques such as Water Release: Great Water Shark Bomb, or Wood Release: Wood Dragon.  This size limit is as follows, and applies to height or length, whichever is greater.

S+1 = 100m
S-rank = 75m
A-rank = 50m
B-rank = 25m
C-rank = 10m
D-rank = 5m
E-rank = 1m

TRAINING SYSTEM:

Training is an important aspect in the life of any ninja. From learning techniques to simply mastering the use of the ones you already know, training is the only way to help one improve their skills. There are a few ways to train from standard to training with shadow clones. Those will be explained below:

  • Standard: The standard costs for training Jutsu will be listed below:
    • E-rank: 250 words
    • D-rank: 750 words
    • C-rank: 1,000 words
    • B-rank: 1,250 words
    • A-rank: 1,500 words
    • S-rank: 2,000 words

  • Mentor: The mentor system allows you to learn a technique with a 25% word discount if you are learning it from another PC that already knows the technique. This discount also applies to all other training and can stack with the Shadow Clone training method.
  • Shadow Clone: When using a shadow clone to supplement your training, you can get a 25% word discount. This can apply to all trainings from Jutsu to elements.

ULTIMATE TECHNIQUES:

An Ultimate or Legendary Technique is the pinnacle of Shinobi Jutsu. There is a list of them from Canon as well as one has the opportunity to make them custom. ALL ultimate techniques are treated as their Rank +1. So if you wanted to make a D-rank ultimate, it would be treated as a C-rank for interaction purposes. Ultimate techniques also grant a unique boon that isn’t available for normal Jutsu. This can be applied for when you create the technique OR you can choose one of the premade ones below:

  • Penetrator - Treats defensive techniques it interacts with as -1 rank in durability.
  • Attacker - Granted +1 rank in Technique Power
  • Defender - Granted +1 rank in Technique durability
  • Sensor - Technique allows its user to sense all around them at double their max chakra stat.
  • Stealthy - Technique allows its user to become undetectable to sensing techniques below S-rank, as well as allowing them to still use other techniques while this one is active. (You are NOT invisible. So be sure to use common sense)
  • Perfected - Ultimate costs 50% Normal chakra requirement to activate and maintain.
  • Impacted - Technique interacts twice if it hits, meaning it deals the damage twice in the same post.

A character is able to create/obtain an ultimate when they reach A-tier and S-tier respectively, the only way to get one sooner is via YEN prize.
