Ryo was stood in one of the training rooms within the academy; squared up straight with one of the training dummies. He had already been trying for an extended period of time. Ryo couldn't count the amount of times he had slammed into the dummy. He had an epiphany while doing so.

Part of his Kekki Genkai was Lightning Release; since it was that and Earth that made the explosions. Thereby... what if he could combine his explosive moves with the idea of it. Maybe then, he'd be able to use it once he understood it conceptually. Least, that was his current idea.

First; Ryo would look around to make sure no one was around. Next; was the part he didn't like showing everyone. Ryo would shift his stance so his focus would be on explosive speed; adjusting for a single strike. This way, he could maximize his relatively limited chakra pool. Ryo would explode forward, slamming into the training dummy. He'd make impact; but it wouldn't satisfy the young man. Ryo would step back and do again, still not satisfied.

He'd do this about a dozen more times before realizing that it wouldn't work. Not this way. Ryo did like his thought process, but it wasn't going to work. Not to get something as sporatic as lightning. After all, the saying was that you couldn't catch lightning in a bottle. Or something like that. Ryo was never really good at phrases or morals.

Ryo was a simple fellow, and his plan was as simple as him.

While Ryo had some bruises from his previous train of thought, nothing matched the progress he made on his chain of thought. He felt that he was on the right track, and would make a move towards being even more on the right track. This train of thought, first and foremost, would require him to sit and rest a moment. Constantly slamming into a wooden dummy would do nothing but give him splinters and a headache.

Ryo's biggest issue right now is that he wasn't thinking. Not even thinking straight; he was going off gut instinct and calling it thought. Still, it was absolutely worth a try. If he couldn't trust his gut now, what would that mean for combat where that's all he had time to trust?

After reasting for the better part of thirty minutes; Ryo'd get up. He'd stand there for about fifteen-minutes searching for that just right feeling to strike with. Once he got it, though, he'd strike forward and for once be satisfied with the strike. Was it actually a good one? Insofar as he's concerned, it made a good sound and felt good on contact. This is also how he felt lightning techniques should be; and thus went into the thought process of how to tame it. Trying to overpower it wouldn't work; so working alongside it should theoretically work.

He was certainly no scientist; but it was worth a try. After all; he had awoken his Earth Element quickly after figuring out the logic behind it.

Next on his list was to meditate to see if he could feel it. This would take a good while; a couple of days off and on. After all, he was still in the academy. Ryo had to attend class like all the other students, keeping up his cool façade. After the day, he'd meditate in the training rooms with the surrounding people training their taijutsu. After all; how was one to find lightning in pure silence? That was no way of going about it. One had to sit in the middle of the storm to find it. This is also why it took two days; but he'll tell you otherwise.

Once he felt it, it was time to put it in practice. The question of how was the first thing. Ryo hadn't actually...gotten it to appear. He just knew it was there now. A vast improvement, sure, but not one that was enough for him to considering stopping this line of training yet. He'd have to drop the facade for this training though, so it'd wait until everyone else went home. Then, he'd start slamming into the dummy again. Slowly; turning his stance in the explosive version that he managed to use earlier. He'd stop about halfway though, realizing that pure explosiveness isn't enough. Lightning is erratic; but pointed. That was the core of the concept that he had failed to grasp. No matter how it would fall; it strikes the ground the same. This gave him inspiration to try one move to finally actually use lightning.

Ryo; having shifted into this halfway stance, would punch forward. He felt something. He'd repeat this strategy repeatedly; churning his chakra in an attempt to slam lightning into the training dummy. It wasn't working; but he felt that he was on the right path. Ryo would speed up the slams; getting more spirited. It looked outright foolish, but he felt something happening as he churned his chakra. Something felt electric; but he couldn't grasp it quite yet.

Ryo would stop; sit down and try to grasp this feeling. It wasn't an easy thing to do; as lightning is quite elusive compared to something like earth. Yet; that didn't stop him. It made him sweat, sure. But it was worth it, in the end. He finally caught the feeling and got up. He'd get into the explosive punch, dash forward, and his punch would land directly onto the chest of the wooden dummy! Upon drawing his fist back; he'd notice a small singe on the dummy. This was massive, considering he had nothing that would've done it except...

"YES! FINALLY! I DID IT!" Ryo would shout out, jumping straight up in excitment before trying to do it again. It'd be inconsistent, over the next couple of days. Still, that didn't stop him from perfecting the basics of lightning release before stopping this line of training. He certainly had more plans for lightning release in the future, but nothing he needed or could do right away. All of that came in the future, when he had more training.

Body Replacement was something that had came naturally to the youth via the training he had from his family. It didn't take him long; it was mostly the timing that troubled him. Ryo would mistime it, and either take the hit or the strike would stop in mid-air because they no longer had a reason to strike.

This caused him to gather his friend, Ryoma, and the two would train together day in and day out on Body replacement timing. It wasn't super easy, but it wasn't exactly a bad time. After all; it was sparring and training with one of the few people he feels like he can be open with.

Ryo's most notable failure is when his body is replaced...directly back into the range of the attack. This made it hurt all the more when it made contact. This didn't exactly please Ryo, but it made him learn very quickly the importance of range management when it came to the Body Replacement technique. This might be something comically simple; but Ryo would dedicate over a week to learning and refining it. After all, one shouldn't shirk the basics even if functional understanding comes quickly. One has to try and test for all the strange theoreticals.

That's what they did; using the replacement to dodge an attack from Ryoma and attack back. Now, it was rarely a successful attack but that wasn't the point of the training. The point was to get the timing down; which he did. Once he had his timing down, he considered the jutsu trained enough to focus on something else.

Ryo was simply sat inside of his room at home; reading over the instructions for training the clone technique. He had read it over multiple times, and felt confident in doing it this time. He had failed multiple times, but that meant nothing in the long run. If he couldn't get it this time, he'd get it next time.

First; he'd circulate chakra directly as suggested by the instructions. It doesn't work the first time; but he felt like he got significantly closer than he did the first time. When he did it about five more times; he got closer each time. Ryo wasn't getting frustrated. He was too close to get frustrated. He was far too close to get so frustrated.

He'd try it again; this time producing a slightly imperfect copy of himself. The face was a bit doopier and his arm was a good bit longer than it actually was. Still; this was one of the first times he got a mostly correct copy. Every other time, he managed to completely bugger it up.  This time though, he actually could tell who it was! This was such a vast improvement, he cheered outloud. After which; he tried once more.

This time, though it took a moment, he succeeded fully. Afterwards; he continued to push forward with this clone technique making sure he could do it on command. Of course, he'd do it at random times for a couple of weeks afterwards. After all; you have to always be ready to use it.
