Village: Kumogakure
Character Rank: Chunin/C
Clan: Kaminari
Element: Lightning
Personality: Yami has a cool aura surrounding her. She's very levelheaded and rarely ever snaps. When she does, however, it's not a pretty sight and experience to go through. She's soft-spoken, but very firm with her words that can holds both valiant and authority. It helps shape her into a more reliable and intrepid leader. On the other hand, it can make her blunt opinions sound harsher than intended. Some say she's sophisticated despite her rough upbringing, but mainly through speech. Regardless, she carries herself as a mature young woman who's more logic-based than emotional; keen with her surroundings and observant of conversations.
Yami is often seen with a stoic expression and rarely ever shows any form of warmth and more cold. That's not to say that she's emotionless and constantly has her walls up at all time, but rather very selective with when and who she'd like to open up to. She doesn't consider herself as a hostile person, but rather someone that prefers to keep to herself. Her cynical viewpoint of being a kunoichi caused her to be more cautious on who surrounds her, so naturally it's no surprise that she may appear uninterested in anything outside of training, missions, or any kunoichi business related activities. Even if that may not be the case.
Underneath her strict and more or less professional persona, deep down Yami can be a motherly figure that has no qualms in lending a shoulder to cry on and listening to other people's troubles that's been bottled up inside. She's a social butterfly despite what her image says otherwise. She cares deeply for those around her and her village as a whole. Despite her rather pessimistic outlook of life, she still tries to motivate for hope and attempt to hope for the best, even though her grim realistic views can often get in the way.
But an interesting trait lies in her is being sassy. Not often is it seen for Yami to have her fun or let alone give off a genuine smile to signal she's entertained. It's not a side that's often seen, but considered a very rare sight. She's not at all a troublemaker, but even people like her want to let loose somehow.
Character History: Yami's family history was far from anything but troublesome and dangerous; living life on the edge with the famous clan surname, they practiced a very dangerous lifestyle. It was mainly her father, Akio Kaminari, that'd often put his family in danger. He was known to gamble and was all too good with how he handled it. It was because of him his family was in riches, but it was also the downfall. He had a few run ins with certain people in regards to paying off debt and the likes
He'd evade as much as he could for years, but Karma eventually caught up to him as he was assassinated in his own home where Yami, her mother Mina, and her two younger siblings, Sara and Boton, were also present by an unnamed gang. They were fortunately spared, but at a grim cost. They were all rounded up and forced to watch the brutal murder of Akio. Any sound from them meant they were next. The minutes were agonizing as the entire family watched with wide teary eyes and whimpering sniffs. When the murder was done, they were warned that they'd suffer the same fate if they dared try to speak to anyone about it.
They were soon kicked out of the home that was bought with the money her father won from gambling and left out on the streets for a lengthy period of time. Living with the trauma and image of witnessing the murder of her father alongside her family, Yami was forced to step up and help take care of her younger siblings even when she herself was a child. Just a few weeks after living on the streets, they managed to land themselves into a new home, though very far from the luxurious lifestyle that was provided for them.
It was at that moment Yami wanted to be a kunoichi. The next time her family was in danger, she'd be more prepared to take it head on with confidence. Not only that, but she wanted to do good for the world. On the other hand, her mother didn't want her eldest child to not only face death, but also leave her with her siblings. Despite the protest, Yami went against her mother's wishes and promised her that she'd do everything in her power to stay alive for her family.
As Yami entered the academy, she surprisingly showed decent understanding of chakra. Although she was given side eyes, given the strong importance of her clan name and their prowess in ninjutsu whereas her skills demonstrated just slightly the opposite. It came to no surprise that she was the target of bullying and no secret that she felt discouraged from moving forward, but she kept her head high and pushed through the negativity.
She eventually graduated as one of the top students in her class and passed with flying colors. From that day forward, she was promoted to the Genin rank. She was put in a squad with a Yuki Genin and Hyuuga Genin, Hiroto and Niki respectively. Yami had a generally candid experience with her squad and was quick to get along. Overall, they had an unbreakable bond and looked forward to advancing through the shinobi world.
But it was all put to a halt when they were ambushed by grunts whilst they were on a mission outside of the village. A mere search for a pet that wandered off turned into a deadly brawl that even her squad leader struggled to put up against. Her squad leader handled himself well, but it wasn't enough to aid her and her teammates. Niki barely escaped with his life alongside Yami, but unfortunately Hiroto wasn't able to fend for himself. As the grunts fled off, she and her team were left with a teammate that passed to the otherworld.
A funeral was held for Hiroto to which her team attended to. To be surrounded by his friends and family, it reminded her all too well about her father's unfortunate fate, except a funeral was never held for him. Although she felt broken, she forced herself to move on.
A few months later since the incident came around the Chunin Exams, which she managed to pass and promoted to Chunin. Ever since she witnessed the two deaths of the people closest to her, she develop a more cynical perspective of being a shinobi and lost the once optimistic and cheerful young girl that hoped to help maintain peace and balance in the world.
