The dark gray clouds overshadowed the once bright blue sky that soon followed with heavy rain that showered across the lands. The sound of thunder crackled harshly in the air as the occasional flashes of lightning complemented the ominous atmosphere the weather gave. For civilians, a lot rather stayed in the comforts of their own homes if they had no plans or errands to attend to. Still and all, There was no rest for the wicked when it came to duties of a shinobi. Even as the weather was vicious as it could get, there was always a Kaminari clan member who'd use the weather to their advantage; mastering the kekkei genkai, Black Lightning, and Ichika was no different in seizing the occasion of conquering the unique trait.
Ichika's head was lifted to the sky, eyes closed, and breathing maintained at a steady pace while she stood tall at the top of a mountain. Hands were tightened into fists as she tried to stay as still as possible to support her focus and stay sharp on nothing but the sounds from the weather; the rain, the wind, the thunder, everything. Basked in the pounding rain that soaked her wet and relatively calm amongst the booming thunder, her focus in channeling her chakra was unbreakable. Each thunderous roar from the sky, Ichika's breath momentarily slowed. It was as if she tried to become the thunder and lightning that took over the sky.
She didn't know how long she stood out in the rain or bothered to keep track. The moment rain poured down, Ichika traveled outside the village and onto the mountains. She knew her time to master Black Lightning was here. How was she going to do it? She didn't know, but she'd figure it out. Ichika had the choice to go to her parents to seek guidance as they've mastered the clan's kekkei genkai. What made her change her mind was the mere idea of impressing her parents if she were to do it alone. That, and she'd be able to prove herself and satisfy her obsession of perfecting her traits as a shinobi.
The girl's eyes carefully opened and stared back at the dark gray, nearly black clouds. She lowered her head and stared straight ahead; nothing in particular, but only what was in front of her which was the terrifying height from where she was to the ground. She gave herself a determined nod and began to perform various hand seals as quickly as she could. When she was done, Ichika held out her right hand. Lightning sputtered all over her hand as it slowly molded into a disc.
To her dismay, the color of her technique was normal. Ichika's eyebrows furrowed into frustration and threw her hand down to her side. Again. She repeated the hand seals for the second time. Lightning, this time, crackled slowly but more powerful compared to last time. The disc's forming speed was also slowed as Ichika focused all of her chakra to turn it black. For a split second, the color of the disc had a small yet noticeable spark of black electricity that spazzed among the usual light blue hue the disc had.
Her efforts to hold the disc in place and find the source of where the black lightning formed was great, but it wasn't enough to upkeep. The black lightning quickly dissolved into the light blue color. Her teeth were tight shut in anger as she yelled, "Damn it!" Unusual, but understandably losing her cool. Ichika, the disc only being as large as her hand with dull slices, chucked her failed disc into the sky in no particular direction.
She acknowledged that something as sacred and powerful as her clan's kekkei genkai wouldn't be an easy feat to accomplish. It could take days, weeks, or months even to try and perfect her clan's skill. The problem was she didn't want to spend time on it and expected to master it as quickly as she could. The thought of always making her parents proud and the slight chance of disappointing them always stood behind her mind. She was raised to be a valuable asset to her clan and village, so what use would she be if she couldn't have access to the skill?
No, she wasn't about to give up; not while the progression grew ever so slightly. Ichika took a deep breath to control her nerves and heavily exhaled through the mouth. She began cracking the joints in her hand, from the fingers to the wrists. She didn't know where exactly she managed to channel the black lightning when it first sparked from within, but all she needed to do was to find that spot once again and focus all of her chakra there. No matter how often her disc may fail, it was better than throwing it all away.
One more time.
Another time, Ichika formed the necessary hand seals and held out her right hand once again. Her breathing slowed, light blue lightning crackled. This time, however, as she focused her chakra, the light blue lightning slowly darkened into black lightning started to crackle around her arm. Immense improvement was already made, but she wasn't going to get excited just yet.
The disc formed another time, returning to its light blue color. As it formed, the black lightning began to appear. As the disc grew, so did the dominance of black lightning taking over. From bright to nearly pitch black, Ichika focused all of her chakra into this one disc. While the thunder boomed in the air and lightning flashed across the sky, the disc darkened. She was almost there.
After a few minutes, or what felt like an eternity, the disc was engulfed in black lightning. Joy of accomplishment rushed all over Ichika, but she was well in keeping her composure. Another nod of satisfaction, she rose the disc over her head and flung it forward across the sky in no particular direction.
She did it.
She finally achieved Black Lightning.
